Coloured Smoke Grenades: A Guide for Creative Events

Coloured smoke grenades are one of the most versatile fireworks you can buy. They’re not just for Bonfire Night – they’re used for gender reveals, weddings, photography, sports events, film shoots, military training, and festivals. The thick, vibrant clouds create instant atmosphere and incredible photos.

This guide covers everything you need to know about coloured smoke grenades in the UK – types, colours, safety, and creative uses.

What is a smoke grenade?

A smoke grenade (or smoke bomb, smoke flare) is a pyrotechnic device that produces a dense cloud of coloured smoke when ignited. Unlike fireworks, they don’t explode or shoot into the air – they sit on the ground and emit a steady stream of coloured smoke for 30–120 seconds.

At Big Shotter Fireworks, our smoke grenades include wire-pull, ring-pull, and fuse-ignition types.
