QUICK ANSWER
Edinburgh doesn’t have a big city-run Bonfire Night display. Fireworks at Edinburgh Castle are a Hogmanay event, not a Bonfire Night one. For 5 November 2026, look for community displays such as Currie & Balerno, The Grange Club and St Peter’s — 2026 dates are still being announced. Edinburgh will have 14 Firework Control Zones from 30 October to 8 November 2026, where setting off your own fireworks is a criminal offence.

Is There a Big Fireworks Display in Edinburgh on Bonfire Night?
No. Edinburgh no longer has a large city-run Bonfire Night display — the old Meadowbank fireworks ended with the stadium redevelopment. The Edinburgh Castle fireworks many people picture are part of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay on New Year’s Eve. Bonfire Night in Edinburgh is now celebrated at smaller community displays run by local clubs, schools and charities.
Is the Scottish Love in Action Fireworks at Myreside On in 2026?
No. The Scottish Love in Action Fireworks Extravaganza at Myreside Stadium was one of Edinburgh’s best-known Bonfire Night events. The charity announced in August 2026 that it is ending the event after 15 years, citing rising costs and falling ticket sales.

What Are Edinburgh’s Firework Control Zones?
Firework Control Zones (FCZs) are areas where it is a criminal offence to set off fireworks — apart from sparklers, indoor fireworks and licensed displays — for a set period around Bonfire Night. Scotland’s 2022 fireworks law gave councils the power to create them. Edinburgh first used them in 2024 and has expanded them each year.
For 2026, Edinburgh will have 14 zones in force from 30 October to 8 November:
- Balerno, Calton Hill, Niddrie and Seafield
- Corstorphine, Longstone, Sighthill/Broomhouse and The Murrays
- Liberton Grange, Lochend, Stenhouse/Gaskell Street, West Pilton, Wester Hailes and Moredun
Check the council’s map before Bonfire Night — the boundaries don’t always follow whole neighbourhoods.
Can I Watch Fireworks from Calton Hill?
You can still go up Calton Hill to look across the city, but it’s a Firework Control Zone, so you can’t set off fireworks there. The same applies to parks and other public places across Scotland: it’s illegal to have adult fireworks in a public place without a reasonable excuse.
Scotland’s Fireworks Rules for 2026
- When you can set them off: only between 6pm and 11pm — until midnight on 5 November, and until 1am on Hogmanay, Chinese New Year and Diwali.
- Where: only in a private place such as your garden, never in the street or a park, and not at all inside a Firework Control Zone.
- Buying: shops can only sell fireworks to the public between 7am and 6pm, and no more than 5kg of explosive content at a time.
- Age: you must be 18 to buy or set off adult fireworks, and buying them for an under-18 is a criminal offence.
